Pets & Apartments Inc.® was founded in the summer of 2003 in Vancouver, BC out of frustration with being repeatedly refused a place to rent because I had a puppy (Othello). At the time there were no pet-friendly apartment listings to be found anywhere, not even on-line. This is when Othello and I started walking around Vancouver collecting pet-friendly addresses.
In the process we met and spoke with a number of pet owners, like Catherine, (read 'Feedback' from 2003-07-27) who made it clear they shared this frustration. It also made me realize we are not going to make this situation any better with the same approach of blaming the government and property managers. The best way to improve opportunities for trust is to create them ourselves.
